Cumberland Valley District Health Department is accepting applications for Part Time Breastfeeding Peer Counselors. CVDHD is looking for up to three individuals from Clay County, Jackson County, and Rockcastle County to provide breastfeeding guidance and support to new mothers
The Breastfeeding Peer Counselor provides information, counseling and support to WIC participants prenatally and postpartum to assist them in their breastfeeding experience. The Peer Counselor provides information consistent with the WIC program’s guidelines. Services are typically provided over the phone or face to face.
This is a contract position. Starting Salary is $10.00 per hour. Peer Counselors work 10-20 hours per week.
A Peer Counselor must be a current or past WIC participant who successfully breastfed at least one infant for 6 months or longer. Candidates should be enthusiastic about breastfeeding and willing to help other mothers have a positive breastfeeding experience. Candidates must be willing to accept and make phone calls to mothers outside normal working hours of 8:00 -5:00, including weekends.
The Peer Counselor will be required to complete a 4-day training and to participate in 3 meetings a year. Trainings and meetings may require overnight travel.
